When the need may arise, any Heir can become a new Queens in her own right but for the Greenwood Hive, one queen rules alone only advised by her council and sadly a single mother simply wouldn’t produce the numbers needed to maintain Chehir’s swarm. As history has shown time and time again, the Changelings had to adapt to survive and thus the Clutch Mother was born from a necessity to create and maintain large swarms to appease their parasitic King. It was Queen Chronomera herself crafted them from mere heirs, in her image by her own hoof but lacking even the simplest means to communicate with their own kind.

As to prevent them from ever from rising up or worse yet, allowing Chehir even more leverage over her Hive than he already possess, she removed their antennae and stunted the growth of their pheromone producing glans. Deaf and muted, they would never be able to command even the simplest of Chagelings, let alone turn against her with a hive of their own. For without the Queens word, a Clutch Mothers cannot even feed herself, requiring the aid of Drones to even survive. They can only speak by way of tongue and serve little purpose outside of laying eggs or weeding out the sickly and dying of the Greenwood Hive.

Rarely ever seen by outsiders, the Pale was the first to ever lay eyes upon one and document their kind for future study. After extensive research into the subject, he concluded the anomaly was the result of Chehir’s growing ambitions and could potential be weaponized by the Crown of Grangea to aid the Red Queen in her campaigns. Going as far to offering the possibility of her own devoted Hive of loyal Changelings to server her every beck and call. A tempting offer for sure but one that could anger the long alliance between her family and the Greenwood Hive.
